About Jets at JPX
FAA noise certification stages set minimum standards. Stage 3 is the oldest allowed; Stage 4 and 5 are progressively quieter. The Town attempted to restrict Stage 3 jets in 2015–2017 but was blocked by federal courts.
Companies like NetJets and Flexjet sell shares of aircraft, generating high-frequency operations. A single fractional operator may account for hundreds of annual operations at KJPX.
Jets connect KJPX primarily to NYC-area airports (Teterboro, Westchester) and seasonal destinations (Palm Beach, Nantucket, Aspen). Peak traffic aligns with summer weekends.
Jet noise dissipates with distance and altitude. Higher approaches mean less ground-level noise. The Pilot's Pledge asks jet pilots to maintain 1,500 ft until maneuvering for landing.
Jets classified by ICAO aircraft type designator and engine type (turbojet/turbofan). Noise estimates from EASA/FAA type certification data. Operator data from FlightAware AeroAPI. Curfew window: 10 PM – 7 AM ET (Town of East Hampton published).
